Gearmotors for Hazardous Locations
Electrical equipment used in places such as gas pipelines, aircraft hangars, refineries, industrial coating and mixing facilities, and chemical processing plants must contain special wiring and components. The National Electrical Code (NEC) breaks down areas such as these that may contain explosive concentrations of dust or vapors into classes and divisions. Bodine offers gearmotors and motors that meet either Class I, Division 2 (Groups A, B, C and D) or the more stringent Class I, Division 1 (Groups C and D) standards.
Our Class I, Division 2 gearmotors (IP-44) meet NEC standards for use in environments where flammable gases or vapors may accidentally be spilled or leak into the operating area. Our Class I, Division 1 gearmotors and motors (IP-66) are engineered to be used in environments where ignitable concentrations of flammable gases, vapors or liquids are likely to exist under normal operating conditions.
Power management is critical in many low-voltage applications. Bodine’s new Class I/Div 1, low-voltage brushless DC (EC) gearmotors were designed with battery and solar power use in mind. Whether it is agricultural equipment, a warehouse automation robot (AGV or AMR), a portable medical device, or a chemical injection pump in a remote gas or oil field, we’ll make sure you get the performance you need. Our new high-torque type 34B6BXBL-FX gearmotors are an ideal solution for low-voltage, off-grid and mobile applications in hazardous locations or industrial environments. These new CI/D1 gearmotors and motors meet the IP-66 environmental protection standard. The geared motors are UL certified for CI/D1 and carry the cULus mark.
Benefits of Inverter-Duty Gearmotors. Inverter-duty gearmotors (and motors) feature variable speed, AC three-phase motor windings that are designed with a special winding insulation system to protect them from potential voltage spikes or corona damage caused by the AC “inverter” PWM speed control (=variable frequency drive / VFD). We offer inverter-duty type 34R-FX gearmotors that are certified for CI/D1 or CI/D2 hazardous location applications. In general, AC three-phase gearmotors and motors are more efficient than their AC single-phase (PSC) counterparts, they are more compact, and provide higher output torques in the same size package. In addition, these variable-speed AC gearmotors and motors don’t require brush replacement or brush maintenance. Typical Applications are conveyor systems, food processing equipment, factory automation, pumps, lifts and packaging equipment. Our CI/D2 34R4-FX gearmotors feature a large terminal box with terminal block and meet IP-44. The CI/D1 standard inverter-duty 34R6BXPP-FX models meet IP-66.
