What are IP Ratings
The Ingress Protection (IP) rating is a measure of how a gearmotor is affected by water and solid particles. They usually have two numbers: the first indicates the level of protection against solid material, the second against liquids. IP ratings are determined by the international standard EN 60529 (British BS EN 60529: 1992 – Degrees of protection provided by enclosures (IP Code) and European IEC 60509: 1989 – Degrees of protection provided by enclosures (IP Code).
Example: A gearmotor that is rated IP-69K is dust tight and is protected from close-range, high-pressure, high-temperature water jets.
